Tammy grew up in the small town of Coyne Center, right outside of Milan, Illinois going to public schools in the Sherrard school district and then graduating from Rock Island High School. During high school she worked at Whitey's Ice Cream and after graduating was offered a management position at their East Moline location. Tammy's father worked at the Rock Island Lines Railroad, a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks Union. When the railroad dissolved he went to work with the Painters local #502 & 676 with Tammy's uncle Keith and grandfather Franklin Peterson. Her mother was a renowned baker and cook at many local restaurants and actively involved in farmers markets in the area.
A stay at home mom raising two boys, Tammy began working for Marilyn Esslinger, the Rock Island County Circuit Clerk in 1998, joining AFSCME local #2025. She started in the Civil Division, imaging court documents and immediately began assisting with computer issues. In 2004 Tammy was appointed Systems Manager, taking responsibility for the computer systems of the Circuit Clerk's Office and training staff and other court personnel with those systems.
Over the next eleven years Tammy worked closely with Circuit Clerk Lisa Bierman, ushering in new technologies, expanding the electronic abilities of the office and initiating the collections process, including the successful tax intercept program which to date has brought in over $160,000. Tammy designed and implemented filing of appeals electronically with the third district appellate court and created a funds balancing system for five budgets.
In 2012 Tammy married Frank Weikert and blended their families and together have raised four children. Frank retired from the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department after 34 years and was two term president of the Fraternal Order of Police Union. Kayla is the oldest daughter, graduating from Black Hawk College, East Campus with a degree in Equestrian Science, is also a reservist in the Illinois Army National Guard and is now a full time student at Western Illinois University. David is currently a graduate student at Missouri State. Amanda is getting married in the fall and works for a local bank. Kyle is just finishing his tour with the Navy with a deployment to Sicily, Italy returning in August 2019.
In June 2015, Tammy was appointed Chief Deputy and two months later she was appointed by the Rock Island County Board to the Office of Circuit Clerk.
